Major life disruption and trying to get ready for OneTree at Bateman Gallery

Shop NewsIan Murphy

My summer and fall have been interesting… My day job is as a Fisheries Scientist and Sr Project Manager and I was asked to upturn my life and head to Lillooet BC to help the government respond to a major landslide on the Fraser River. The slide had happened in a remote area and was blocking salmon from being able to return to their spawning grounds. This remote assignment has seriously affected my shop time as when I am home I am trying to get as much family time as possible.

In February, I had applied for and been accepted into an art show called the OneTree Project. The idea is that all of the participating artists use wood from a single tree - more details can be found here: https://www.theonetreeproject.ca/ It is a very cool idea and I am very thankful to be a part of it; however, I was anticipating having more time over the summer to get my design knocked out. It has been a struggle…, but happily with the help of my wife who sanded like crazy, we have finally got it completed and ready to show. The show runs November 16 2019 to February 29 2020 and i encourage everyone to check it out. The other artists and work they have been creating is truly remarkable - do not miss it!
